I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Greg Goff, an experienced oil and gas executive. Mr. Goff was President and Chief Executive Officer of Andeavor (an integrated downstream energy company) from 2010 to 2018 and Chairman from December 2014 to 2018. In 2018 he was named by the Harvard Business Review as one of the top performing CEOs in the world. Mr. Goff is currently a board director at ExxonMobil but for this interview he is speaking strictly in his personal capacity.

Eccles: Greg, I know you’re a busy guy so thanks for taking the time to talk to me about two issues that are important but controversial: the energy transition and ESG.

Goff: My pleasure Bob, I have given both topics considerable thought, so I am pleased to share my views.

Eccles: I’m looking forward to what you have to say. Before we dig into these topics, please tell me a bit about your professional career.

Goff: I spent my career in the energy business and I am very grateful for the opportunities and challenges that I experienced around the world. Fortunately, I spent time in the upstream, downstream, midstream, and commercial parts of the industry. Also, I met and worked with many fascinating people and especially enjoyed working in many different cultures.
